Intended learning outcomes

a. Knowledge and understanding:

  1. Acquire knowledge regarding DNA replication in bacteria, plasmids, transposable elements, as well as eukaryotic organelles and the nucleus.
  2. Understand the molecular basis and significance of mutation
  3. DNA cloning as a tool for genetic analysis

b. Mental skills:

  1. To understand the roles of DNA and RNA in prokaryotes.
  2. To recognise the role of genetic mutation and selection in the evolution of the bacterial species
  3. Understanding the role of microbial genetics and molecular biology in the advancement of science and society.

c. Scientific and professional skills:

  1. To give hands-on experience of many of the genetic principles that are discussed in the lectures
  2. To gain experience in uses of genetic methods to investigate biological problems.
  3. To gain the needed skills for solving problems and demonstrate analytical and critical thinking.

d. General skills:

  1. Team working, searching data base and review articles related to microbial genetics
  2. Will be able to design an experiment using the gained practical skill
  3. Will be able to summaries experimental work in a correct way in a laboratory notebook
